Immersive Branded Campaigns: HBO Voyeur

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCr853VVo9c

This is an interesting summary of a multi-platform branded campaign for HBO. With a true understanding of the nature of story, we are invited to peer into the many lives of New Yorkers as if they did not know we were watching.

The campaign began with a physical event to watch a projected screening of the side of a building where we saw what looked like the lives of a dozen people living their own lives.

The idea was for the audience to connect with the characters in an objective and distanced manner. For those who could not attend the event, they had access to the same footage through the website www.HBOVoyeur.com. From there, viewers were able to select which characters they chose to follow, and understand more about how these characters all connected.

The viewers bombarded the HBO blogs with discussions and comments about the project, and quickly a community was embraced within the online platform.

This is an interesting campaign because it takes the notion of story and uses its narrative throughout numerous mediums. By enabling the viewer to immerse themselves within the narrative world, they become participants of the ever expanding branded campaign. As if the story was designed to call attention to the notion of voyeurism, the participants are involving themselves within the narrative itself by fulfilling the very nature of the story in the first place.
